Tess Jeffers is the Wall Street Journal's director of newsroom data and AI. She leads a team of data scientists and data analysts building newsroom dashboards, content insights and AI models. Recent projects include revamping the Journal's suite of newsroom metrics, orchestrating data pipelines for real time data and deploying AI models to automate the newsroom's consumer taxonomy.
Before joining WSJ, Tess was a data science manager at Schireson, a data-driven marketing firm where she led AI integration projects and data strategy. Prior to that, Tess earned her PhD in quantitative and computational biology from Princeton University.
Tess was an instructor for the LSE Polis JournalismAI Academy for Small Newsrooms and a member of the 2023 cohort of the ONA Women's Leadership Accelerator program.
