Summer is the Senior Director of Editorial Products at American City Business Journals (ACBJ), where she leads the development and execution of strategies for newsletters and artificial intelligence across the company's newsrooms. Summer is responsible for creating training curricula and mentoring digital editors throughout ACBJ. The Business Journals reach an extensive audience of over 10 million people through 48 websites, 64 publications, and more than 700 industry events annually.
With a background in building and coaching diverse teams, Summer has experience in training both small and large newsrooms and has served as an adjunct journalism professor. She is dedicated to growing readership for local news, demonstrating the value of journalism, and guiding journalists in maximizing their relevance to both existing and new audiences.
Summer's career spans various newsroom roles, including being a crime reporter in Georgia, a lifestyles editor in Ohio and an engagement editor in Indiana. Recognizing the increasing importance of digital revenue in the industry, she transitioned to focus on audience growth and retention for news organizations in 2007.
Prior to joining ACBJ, Summer was Director of Content at Gannett, where she crafted and implemented content strategies to enhance audience engagement and expand databases through social media, video and print.
