Rubina Madan Fillion is the Associate Editorial Director of A.I. Initiatives at The New York Times. She’s part of a cross-disciplinary team that leverages generative artificial intelligence and other forms of machine learning for the benefit of journalists and audiences, while ensuring the responsible use of these technologies. She previously worked for The New York Times Opinion as the Director of Strategy, partnering with leaders in editorial, product and operations on department goals, new products, hiring and financial planning to advance the long-term mission of opinion journalism. She was also the Director of Audience for The New York Times Opinion and the founding Director of Audience Engagement at The Intercept. Rubina spent seven years at The Wall Street Journal, most recently as a social media editor. She has taught graduate-level digital journalism courses at Columbia University and New York University. She serves on the boards of the Online News Association and the Deadline Club, New York’s chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. Rubina was part of the 2017 cohort of ONA’s Women’s Leadership Accelerator. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Emory University and a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University.
