News Go Bag Project and RJI Innovation Fellow 23-24
Kate B. Maxwell is the founder and former publisher of The Mendocino Voice, a nationally recognized online local news outlet based in Northern California started in 2016, and is currently working on the News Go Bag project, a resource supporting local journalists covering disasters and emergencies. Maxwell received a Reynolds Journalism Innovation Fellowship 2023-'24 to develop the initial tools in the News Go Bag Project, and was previously a JSK Stanford Community Impact Fellow in 2020-21 and a JSK Stanford Senior Fellow 2022-'23, and has also received a California Health Fellow at the UC Annenberg Center for Health Journalism for community-centered Covid-19 coverage. Her award-winning reporting on Northern California has been featured in a variety of local and national print, online, and radio outlets, and her public records advocacy has resulted in overturning local legislation and increased government transparency.
