Host
AI in Journalism
Oakland, California, United States
I’m the host of AI in Journalism, a seasoned media professional and educator with over 20 years of experience at San Francisco State University. My career, which began at the Associated Press, has taken me from small newsrooms to big ones, to radio stations, to online and social media. I hold a BA from USC and an MFA from USF.
At SF State, I focus on news writing and reporting, employing innovative teaching methods that favor interactive, collaborative learning over traditional papers and exams. In Fall 2024, I’m set to teach a Critical Studies on Popular Culture course for the first time, emphasizing theoretical frameworks and real-world applications.
In addition to my academic role, I’ve worked at LinkedIn, specializing in amplifying professional profiles while teaching at SF State from 2012 to 2015. I’ve also conducted global branding and opinion writing workshops, including notable sessions for news outlets in China and the Women’s Media Center. I've enjoyed serving as a guest lecturer at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism.
A few months ago, I launched a new podcast, AI in Journalism, produced by Saspod. The show explores the intersection of AI and media and has featured prominent guests like Dan Greco of Futurepedia and Sreenath Sreenivasan. I hope to help journalists, communicators, and others gain the necessary insights to stay on top of the ever-changing news industry.
